American Bully

The American Bully is famous for its appearance of great strength and muscle for its size. It is a compact and medium/large size dog with a muscular body and blocky head. The American Bully should have heavy bone structure with a thick build and look.

The American Bully is categorised into 4 divisions within the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) , Standard , Pocket , XL and Classic. Many breeders and kennels also use phrases such as Extreme and Micro that both usually fall in line with the pocket or standard category.

The American Bully is a companion breed exhibiting confidence, along with a continuous desire to please and bond with their family, making the American Bully an excellent family companion. Despite the American Bully’s strong and powerful appearance their temperament is extremely gentle. They are great with children, friendly with strangers, other dogs, and other animals. Any form of aggression, extreme shyness, or viciousness is very uncharacteristic of the American Bully and is highly undesirable.

When considering the American bully as a family pet for the first time, it is extremely important that you do your research on all categories of the breed first. Due to the size difference of each category, athleticism and exercise requirements, it is important for you and your bully that you choose the one that suits your lifestyle and environment the most.

Pocket Class
The Pocket Bully is the smallest category for the American bully breed.
Males measuring at 14 -17 inches at the withers.
Females measuring at 13-16 inches at the withers.
Despite the Pocket Bully being the shortest of the breed, they share the same build, body type, and breed type as the Standard American Bully.

Standard Class
All American bully puppies are born as standards, so depending on what height the are once they have finished growing determines the category they are placed into.
Males standing at 17 – 20 inches at the withers.
Females standing at 16 – 19 inches at the withers.

Extra Large (XL) Class
The XL Bully is the largest of the American Bully breed.
Males standing at 20 inches (51 cm) – 23 inches (57 cm) at the withers.
Females over 19 inches (48 cm) – 22 inches (54 cm) at the withers.
